Giving Back to Our Community – Trivia Night with The League of Terre Haute
At Family Friendly Dentistry, we are committed to our patients and are proud of our roots in the Terre Haute community. We love opportunities that allow us to give back to our community and help those in need. Our office recently participated in such an event. We had the honor of sponsoring a recent trivia night that was put on by and benefited The League of Terre Haute.
What is The League of Terre Haute?
This amazing organization is a non-profit that is dedicated to children. Their mission is two-fold in that they provide clothing to children in need as well as dental education and extended services. The League of Terre Haute serves children in grades K-12 in all Vigo County schools.
The Clothes Closet
This section of the organization works closely with each school nurse to provide clothing “orders” to children in need. Many children are assisted by this program, including children who have experienced a house fire, flood, pregnancy, or may have been removed from their home. Each clothing order contains a week’s worth of clothing and underwear. The approximate cost to fill an order is $250, so the organization is always in need of monetary donations and support.
Dental Education and Extended Services
The League of Terre Haute has the honor of being the first mobile dental program that provides dental exams and care to children who were in need. This program began in 1957 and was the first of its kind in the United States. It has now transitioned to a program that is provided every February in honor of National Dental Health Education Month. Each child receives supplies such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and an educational activity book.
Trivia Night Event
This past May, our office sponsored a Trivia Night, which is the League’s biggest fundraiser of
the year. Unfortunately, the event did not take place in 2020, so we were thrilled that we were able to contribute in such a large way this year. We had an amazing time and are so thankful for The League of Terre Haute allowing us to play such a large role in the event.
