Did You Celebrate National Toothache Day?
Did you do anything special to celebrate Valentine’s Day? If not, perhaps you celebrated National Toothache Day! If you are not familiar, National Toothache Day was February 9th and is a day designated to raise awareness about the importance of good oral health and how to avoid toothaches and other dental issues.
Ways to Ensure Proper Oral Hygiene
Most patients only visit the dentist a few times per year. That leaves the majority of their oral hygiene and care in their hands. This is why we recommend that patients brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Patients should also be using dental floss at least once a day to remove any lingering food and bacteria trapped between the teeth and along the gumline. It is important to follow an oral hygiene routine every day, even during busy times of the year and when traveling. Failure to clean your teeth properly can lead to toothaches and other dental problems.
Aside from cleaning your teeth properly, visiting our office for routine hygiene examination appointments is a necessary step to avoid a problem with your oral health. We recommend that children and most adults visit our office every six months. This time frame can be shorter if you are dealing with a dental condition like gum disease. During hygiene examination appointments, we can detect any problem areas and make necessary treatment recommendations. Completing needed treatments in a timely fashion helps patients avoid unnecessary oral discomfort and the need for additional treatments.
If you are in Terre Haute, IN or the surrounding area and it has been quite some time since your last appointment in our office or you are experiencing discomfort of any kind, it is important to contact our office to schedule an appointment. We want to help ensure that you don’t experience any symptoms on National Toothache Day and, instead, you can celebrate your excellent oral health.
