Did You Know That We Offer Two Different Types Of Fillings?
No matter how well you brush and floss, sometimes a cavity can form and you’ll need to have a filling in order to restore your tooth and prevent further damage. But did you know that we offer two different types of fillings? Read on to find out more.
A filling is typically needed when you have a cavity located on the chewing surface of a tooth or between teeth. Cavities can be caused by bacteria in the mouth, frequent drinking and eating of sugary food and beverages, or lack of good oral health care. Fillings fill in the tiny hole in your enamel and keep it from getting bigger. A filling won’t damage the tooth but will protect it and is a long-lasting solution that can last for many years. The procedure is quick and easy and can be completed in less than an hour.
The two types of materials we use for fillings are:
- Composite resins: Made up of tooth-colored plastic and glass material, composite resin is a durable compound that bonds to your tooth to protect it from further decay. Composite fillings have a very natural appearance and blend in with the rest of your teeth so that you can keep your dental work private.
- Silver amalgam: This is by far the most common option for fillings. The material is extremely durable, which is important on those back molars that do much of the heavy chewing. They last for many years and have a high success rate.
There’s no need to be discouraged if you need a filling. They are a very common dental treatment that can restore the integrity of your tooth, and you won’t even notice it’s there. We are happy to go over the different options with you to choose the best material for your specific case. Please feel free to call our office if you have any questions, and we look forward to seeing you again.
