The Importance Of Making Good Oral Hygiene A Family Habit
At Family Friendly Dentistry, we care about the oral health of your entire family. We know that caring for a family can be challenging. It may seem like there are always new responsibilities and activities popping up that take away from any free time you may have. No matter how busy you may be, it is important to create an oral hygiene routine that family members of all ages can learn and benefit from. Here are some essentials that should be included:
Brushing Properly
It may seem silly that we are reminding patients about the importance of brushing properly, but there are many people of all ages who still struggle to brush properly. This is especially common with young children. If you have young children at home, be sure that they are brushing all surfaces of their teeth, not just the front. If you have any questions or want to be sure you or a loved one is brushing properly, we are happy to make a demonstration the next time you are in the office.
Flossing Daily
Brushing each and every day is important. Brushing alone does not remove all the harmful bacteria and lingering food that remain in your mouth. We recommend that patients floss at least once a day, preferably at the end of the day, when you are brushing your teeth.
Choosing Healthy Foods
Patients are often surprised to learn the number of foods that can have an effect on their oral health. Not only can candy be harmful, but the juices that children love often have just as much sugar as candy. Choosing healthy food options and drinking water is always beneficial to your oral health.
Oral Hygiene Examination
If it has been some time since your last appointment, be sure to schedule a visit as soon as possible. We are happy to treat all members of your family to make the scheduling process easier. You don’t have to worry about visiting multiple offices for your oral health needs.
If you are in Terre Haute, IN or the surrounding area and need an oral hygiene examination or to schedule a recommended dental treatment, we will be happy to help! Be sure to contact our office and we look forward to hearing from you soon!
