Developing good oral hygiene habits and taking care of your oral health should start at a young age. We are just as committed to our young patients as we are to the grown-ups who walk through our doors, and we have created a beautiful environment to make them feel comfortable and welcome.
Baby’s First Dental Appointment
The American Dental Association recommends that parents bring their children to the dentist as soon as the first baby tooth erupts. Our goal during that first, brief visit will be to get an overall idea of how their teeth are developing. We will also check the health of their gums and make sure that the tooth has erupted correctly and is properly aligned.
Learning About Oral Care
Your child’s first visit will be brief, and we will teach you how to brush their baby teeth. It will give us the chance to get to know your child and for them to feel comfortable in our environment, creating a positive experience so that future visits will not seem daunting.
Get Ready for the Dentist
Bringing your child to the dentist for the first time will be easier for you and them if they have prepared in advance. Modeling good habits for our child, taking them to your appointments (when practical), and letting them watch you brush and floss your teeth are all ways to prepare them for their own first appointment. You can also play with them in ways that make going to the dentist or brushing their teeth seem like fun, normal activities. Making dental appointments something to look forward to benefits everyone and helps your child feel safe and comfortable when they come to see us.
As your child grows, their needs will change, and we will recommend additional treatments as needed, like fluoride or sealants, to protect their oral health.
Goals and Intentions
Learning good oral hygiene habits early benefits your children and their future so much. Establishing good habits will set them up for long-term oral health and the proper development of their teeth and jaw. Your goals for your child’s oral health are the same as they are for your own health:
- Prevent tooth decay
- Detect oral health problems early
- Establish good habits
- Reduce dental anxiety
- Support overall health and well-being
Your child’s oral health, no matter how old they are, matters to us. Call to set up an appointment for them, and we can answer all your questions and get them started on the road to a healthy smile.
