Is This One Of Your New Year’s Resolutions?
Happy 2022! The start of a new year signifies new beginnings and a fresh start to anything you want to accomplish. We want to remind our patients that the beginning of the year is the perfect time to re-evaluate your oral health. If you have not been to our office in quite a while and are in need of a routine hygiene examination and cleaning, now is a great time to schedule your visit. Delaying your examination and cleaning can lead to a number of problems with your oral health and eventually your overall health as well. Read on to learn more about the importance of routine appointments.
Is It Time For a Visit?
When was the last time you visited our office to have your teeth cleaned for a routine examination? If you can’t recall, then it has been too long. We typically recommend patients visit our office every six months for a routine hygiene examination. There are, of course, exceptions to this timeline, such as for our patients who suffer from gum disease and are in need of additional periodontal treatments. Speaking of gum disease, it is important to note that we do more during your routine examination than just clean your teeth. Of course we look for decay, but we also look for other harmful conditions such as gum disease and oral cancer.
Avoid an Emergency
During your routine visit, we look for areas in the mouth that may not be an immediate problem but show signs of an issue developing in the future. When patients come regularly, we are able to monitor the area of concern and recommend a minor treatment, such as a filling, if needed. However, when appointments are postponed, a minor treatment can turn into the need for a more extensive procedure, such as a root canal or eventually an extraction. The longer decay develops in your mouth without treatment, the greater your chance of experiencing an emergency at an inopportune time. We hate for our patients to experience discomfort over an issue that could have been easily prevented.
If you are in need of a hygiene examination or a recommended treatment, be sure to contact our office located in Terre Haute, IN as soon as possible. The start of a new year is the perfect opportunity to get your dental health on the right track for 2022. We look forward to seeing you soon!
