No matter how young your child may be, they are always welcome at Friendly Family Dentistry. While they’re here, we will help keep their smiles healthy and beautiful in an environment that is perfectly suited for children.
The American Dental Association recommends that you bring your child to the dentist as soon as their first baby tooth erupts. During this brief visit, we will:
- Check the health of your little one’s gums
- Make sure the tooth has erupted on schedule and is properly aligned
- Teach you how to brush those teeny tiny teeth
- Begin to establish a positive relationship with dentistry and oral health habits that will keep their teeth healthy and strong for their entire life
Every child is different, but here are just a few ideas for you to prepare your child for a visit to the dentist:
- Model good habits; take them with you to your own appointments and make sure they watch you brush and floss
- Talk about teeth and dentistry often; you can even read them story books about dental health
- Play dentist; let them brush the “teeth” on their stuffed animals or dolls (if you’re really brave, let them brush yours)
- Make their appointment something they look forward to by rewarding them after each successful visit
As your child becomes responsible for their own dental health care, we may recommend additional safeguards against decay such as professional fluoride treatments and the placement of dental sealants on the biting surfaces of the molars. Combined with a thorough at-home dental health routine, your child’s chances of decay will be greatly reduced.
